CaronaVirus Impact on Manufacturing

The CaronaVirus has already made a huge impact on the tech industry with trade shows that are getting canceled. Some main events which are got canceled or postponed where Money 2020 in Singapore, Fintech India events in Mumbai and New Delhi. The major disruption came with Apple announcing missing its revenue forecast with manufacturing and sales impact.

India’s Reliance Fiber optic program may have some cause of concerns as most of the fiber optic suppliers are based in Wuhan where manufacturing is almost down. Worlds 25% of global production comes from that region. This is also impacting China’s 5G rollout due to the need for fiber optic cables.

The supply of IoT devices is under control as Huawei has resume operations.

LED manufacturing is affected in a limited capacity but the market is in oversupply since 2019 so the impact will not be seen in the coming months.

Lithium-ion battery applications, the production of the power battery cell and non-battery cell components diversify and mostly comes from Japan, Korea, and the US, which was less affected by the outbreak in China.

The outbreak has made a relatively high impact on the smartphone industry because the smartphone supply chain is highly labor-intensive. 1Q20 smartphone production is projected to decline by 12% YoY.
